Illustration Friday “Tribal”

tribal

For this week’s Illustration Friday topic “Tribal”, I created this graphite and charcoal drawing of a Native American woman. I wanted to create an image of a calm and gentle woman looking to the right, towards the future, but hidden behind the calm she has the spirit of a bear throughout her past, strong and brave, fierce and nurturing. I felt somewhat limited by the size of my paper this time and perhaps will create a larger version of this to include more of the bear.

Completed using graphite and charcoal on Strathmore 300 Series Smooth Bristol. Size 5″ x 7″

Illustration Friday “Wheels”

wheel

For this week’s Illustration Friday topic, “Wheels”, I created this illustration of an old ship captain sailing through stormy weather. He looks to be enjoying the ride a lot more than I would be!

Created using watercolours on Fabriano Artistico Extra White Hot Pressed 140lb watercolour paper. Size 5″ x 7″

Illustration Friday “Nostalgia”

nostalgia

For this week’s Illustration Friday topic “Nostalgia”, I wanted to make something in more of a painterly style. I liked the idea of reflection, both with the reflections of the trees in the water, and also with the man sitting on the bench, looking out at the sunset. Nostalgia is thinking about happy moments of the past, so that is what I imagine he is doing as he sits by the water.

Completed using watercolour and gouache on Fabriano Artistico Extra White Hot Pressed 140lb watercolour paper. Size 5″ x 7″

Illustration Friday “Tattoo”

tattoo

For this week’s Illustration Friday topic, “Tattoo”, I was inspired by a news story I had recently seen about the organization Bikers Against Child Abuse (http://bacaworld.org/). It is incredible that these men and women are there to support kids who have already been through so much and to help them to feel safe and protected.

Completed using watercolour, ink and gouache on Fabriano Artistico Extra White Hot Pressed 140lb watercolour paper. Size 5″ x 7″.

Illustration Friday “Prince”

image

This week’s Illustration Friday topic was “Prince”. I completely this Illustration using watercolour and gouache for the background and Prismacolor Premier coloured pencils for the portrait, on Fabriano Artistico Extra White Hot Pressed 140lb watercolour paper. Instead of a full portrait, I liked the mystery created by having him watching as if through a keyhole.

Size 5″ x 7″

Illustration Friday “Tool”

tool

A week late, but this is my illustration for last week’s Illustration Friday topic “Tool”. I thought of a combination of Elmer Fudd and my brother, a construction worker who would always stick his tongue out as a kid when he was concentrating on something! Completed with watercolour and gouache on Fabriano Artistico Extra White Hot Pressed 140lb watercolour paper. Size 5″ x 7″
